The Filth Hounds Biography The Filth Hounds have been together since December 2011, there roots are firmly placed in NWOBHM. they have recently been reviewed in the top Rock Magazine Kerrang and are currently recording there debut album. they are currently number 2 in the reverbnation metal charts for Newcastle upon tyne. NWOBHM is currently recieving a Resurgence and The Filth Hounds hope to be at the forefront of the New! New wave of British Heavy Metal. They were formed out of a band which played rock covers and had been put together in June 2011 to play one gig at John Allom’s (Bass player) birthday party. After the party, most of the band members wanted to form a permanent band. The new band would be called The Filth Hounds: Bryan McGill on Vocals and Guitar, John Allom on Bass and Damian Donnelly playing Drums. As Paul Tyson did not want to continue, the search was on for a second guitarist. Through a good friend on Facebook Nigel Pickett was introduced to the band. Nigel is an accomplished musician playing as a session/tour guitarist with the likes of T’pau and Sade. Although the bands mentioned are pop, Nigel is a true rock guitarist, cutting his teeth with rock outfits such as Warhead, Medusa, Jameson Raid, Osiris, and a brief spell with techno rock band EMG. Last outing was with Impact. Bryan McGill had played with bands like Dr Wott? and Lazy in the 80’s and Sharp Exit in the 90’s as well as a band called Cross Fire in which he first met and played alongside John Allom. Bryan and John wouldn’t play together again for 16 years. John has played in other local bands including Monkey Tennis, which has included some of the most accomplished north east guitarists during various line-ups. Damian Donnelly has played with various local bands including Swan and Homegrown, and in 1995, along with his brother Paul on guitar, Swan played and recorded in Germany. Now with the line-up complete, The Filth Hounds started gigging around the north east of England, playing their own brand of melodic hard rock/ metal original songs, and within a short space of time the band had won a heat of a local ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition. With this success, The Filth Hounds had won the opportunity to release a download single through EmuBands, via iTunes, Amazon,, Spotify, HMV etc. The single release is called “Too Damn Good” and was recorded in May 2012 at Blast Recordings in Newcastle which has had the likes of Therapy?, New York Dolls, Andy Taylor and The Arctic Monkeys record albums there. The single was released on 25th June 2012 and has received great praise from people working within the music industry and fans alike. The second song on the release is a classic Dr Wott? song written by Bryan McGill called Hooked On Love. A manager of a major UK record label has encouraged the band to ply their trade in Europe and believes that The Filth Hounds could become quite a force to be reckoned with in Germany and The Netherlands. The band are currently raising their profile with radio and newspaper interviews and are actively targeting Europe and North America to promote their music. The single “Too Damn Good” is being played on rock radio stations all over the world including the USA, Mexico and Hong Kong.
